Teleco…

OK guys, this is kinda important, I’m really asking you to be extremely sincere with this.

If you are reading this is because you have known me for some time now, so please be serious.

I am really considering leaving Business Management to start Telecommunications Engineering.

Most people, when they get to know me for longer than an hour, get to the point that I belong to sciences and Computer related things. and I’ve been considering changing for a few months now (not because of what people think, don’t get that wrong).

The problem is that I’ll have to start all over again… year 1. Of course all subjects that are “free choice” (libre eleccion) will be done and also 5 to 6 subjects from the main subject plan. I’ve heard from many people that engineers can pretty much do the same a Business manager does and I have personally seen engineers been accepted to work as business managers. although that is not the issue because is not that I want to be in charge of a business or something, but rather do something I am truly, really interested on. Science and technology.

Do you guys think the change is worth it? My parents say its ok, as long as it is what I really want (I don’t deserve to be my parent’s son, they’re far too good). But I’d like some advice from you, my friends.

  1. It depends on you. Do whatever you feel better with yourself, enjoy the life, that's the point. Why did you choose your current career? Maybe you can consider continue with it but deviating to a more technical area. Or moving away and transfer to teleco. It's up to your desires.

Many people decide to study a MBA after having an Engineer degree. Maybe you can study an Engineering after having a BA degree :P.

  2. hey man, having known u for years i totally know what u mean. i often think the same thing. i mean look at me, the guy who loves web design and video editing is studying law and economics. dang, but its a solid basis for whatever u choose to do later on. so i, just like u, had thought of leaving the study and doing something that i REALLY wanna do. but man, look at it that way, ur current study is going good, u probably only have one more year to go. get ur bachelors. then use ur masters to specialize in something u really wanna do. thats how i think im gonna do it. after my BA in european studies im gonna do something related to european institute for innovation and technology.

but man, i know u good enough to be able to say that ur probably not gonna enjoy the ultra geeky stuff they teach u at programming school. like hardcore dry-math based c++ and delphi, vb etc id say ur more of a consumer. u enjoy geekin around on the internet, downloading stuff, photoshoppin a bit here and there, making a blog, bits of code and ur very enthusiastic about technology. but i wouldnt necessary take this as far as droppin out of ur current course to do something like computer science.
