Christmas 2010

Sadly, Christmas is over.

Tomorrow I'm taking my flight back to Madrid, where I'll spend the next two weeks studying like a maniac.

Anyways I've had lots of fun this christmas here in Melilla, a city on the northern part of Africa (still Spain) where everything seems to be so different and so marvelous.

Here, things are not big-scale like everything in Madrid: you don't have to take the underground to go to the center, you just walk for a few minutes. Want to go to the beach? a 3 minute walk will do. Something that I really loved: the weather. C'mon its been 15ºC on average! Also people here seem to frown less than in Madrid... kind of feels like Maastricht (small city, nicer people than in Madrid. Nothing else)

Anyways, I got some of my Christmas presents: A marvelous mirror Rubik's cube (pic attached) and some other things. Unfortunately Vodafone hates me and managed to cancel my HTC Desire HD 2 times for no reason, so we've decided to leave the company and go somewhere else. Orange will do for me.

Anyways I hope you all had a wonderful 2010 and have an incredible 2011!

Back after a huge blogging break

Hi all!

First of all, I'd like to apologize for not writing anything in here for the last god-only-knows months. I've been pretty busy (lousy excuse, I know) with university and everything. Let me explain:

First of all, on the last 15 days of August (yeah, August, we're in November) I went to Santoña as a group leader for a summer camp. It was great, had lots of fun, worked a lot, slept nothing... the usual.

Then I came back to Madrid, had a few days off and enjoyed a nice, pleasant start of the new year that was supposed to be a little harder but much more interesting.

It wasn't.

I mean, it is interesting but it's SO demanding! I study almost all the time and still struggle a bit in some subjects. Sure I enjoy my free time and all but it takes most of my time everyday: I wake up, go to uni, study, have lunch, classes, home, dinner, study, bedtime.

So yeah, other than that, nothing really interesting is going on.

I didn't actually think that I'd end up posting this a month later, but that's life.

Well, here are some of the pictures I took with my (again) crappy HTC Touch Diamond They are not much but sort of reflect the incredible place I got to be for 5 days.

On August 11th we took of from Ronda to Cadiz for a few days of holidays. My parents were to stay there for 10 days and I got to stay for 5 since I had to be in Madrid on august 16th for Santoña summer camp.

And it was fun... well not really fun, it was more relaxing and doing nothing at all for 5 days. wake up, breakfast, beach, lunch, beach, shower, dinner, bed and start again.

Would have been better with friends though.

Wow, It really has been a lot of time since I last updated this, but oh well, here I am!

Its been a great month (almost) since I last updated: I went to Cadiz fo 5 days, then to Santoña until the 30th and in Madrid since that (uni started on Sept 6th)

I'll try to write a post about it with more detail, specially about Santoña, other than that, not much else to say!

My new MacBook Pro and iPod touch!

It's here! finally!

Well, to be honest it actually arrived on the 9th, but I've been a little busy getting used to it so I didn't post anything before.

Attached you can all se some of the pictures of the unboxing. At first I thought of making a video, but I guess I was so nervous I completely forgot, and by the time I had it open it was too late. I guess you can all live without it.

Ok, so for those that don't know, I ordered a 13" MacBook Pro (2.66 GHz) with an iPod Touch a few days ago from the apple store. The story is here. Anyways it finally arrived and opened it and before even turning it on, I turned it over and opened the lid to change the HDD to a 500 Gb SATA disk instead of the 320 HDD that came with it, which means that after the mechanics were done, I had to format it and install OSX from scratch (which was, in my opinion, dead easy) and iLife from the other DVD that came with the laptop.

After a few days playing with it I finally managed to get used to the keyboard and interface, here are the things I like and I don't-like-so-much:

Things I love:

The UI: Simple, useful and smooth, everything fits and everything works like its supposed to.
Trackpad: synaptics has a looong way to go if they wan't to catch up
Virtual Machines and bootcamp: great way to have Windows 7 and Linux all in one. Works perfectly.

Things I like:

The keyboard: different but quite confortable to use, specially the F keys
The DVD reader/writter: instead of clicking a button on the side for a plastic thing to pop out, you simply insert it in a hole and everything is done inside.
Adium: the closest thing in Windows/Linux is pidgin, and it's still far from adium
Many, many more

Things I don't like:

Small little things, like iTunes not syncing properly my calendars to the iPod and so on.

Things I hate:

USB: TWO USBs? and they're SO close together almost no pendrive or thick USB fits with anything else
Audio Jack: Just one? I know Apple has this system where mic and speakers are together, but this is such a pain... I definitely do NOT like that at all
Were-is-my-Delete-key? and no, command-backspace doesn't work for me.

Anyways, hate aside, it's totally worth it, both the MacBook and the iPod Touch.

As some of you might know, I am planning on buying a 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.66 GHz processor, so today I decided to call about the student discount and how many days would it take to get here.

I called the apple today around 18:15 prepared to be stuck there talking to some useless person, like in Vodafone (yeah, I hate them). Anyways, I called and had to answer some typical "press 1 if you are a student, press 4 if you like codfish..." you know, typical stuff. After 3 or 4 questions and a minute of music, I heard a voice of a guys saying with quite a cheerful voice "Welcome to the Apple store line! my name is *****! what can I help you with?" I told him my problem and, all the time being cheerful and nice, answered my questions straight to the point. In the end he told me that he was going to send me an email with all the information we discussed in case I wanted it for reference.

Wow. I mean: WOW. Really, why can't other companies copy this? I am sure it's not hard being nice on the phone! Vodafone (¬¬) lines are always answered by useless people that have NO IDEA what they're talking about and always answer inappropriately. People, learn from Apple.

Another Summer day

Here I am, another summer day, exactly like yesterday, exactly like the day before (and so on).

I haven't updated in quite a while now, but that's mainly because there is not much to update. I'm now in Ronda, Malaga, Spain for a few days (and I'll be here for 10 more), at home. Even though it's really nice coming back home, seeing your parents after so many months and so on, there is a little problem that kind of makes this a less pleasant stay. I don't know anyone here so I stay home most of the time online, watching One Piece, playing Civilization IV or modelling my website.

So that's all I get to do until August 11th, when I go to Cadiz for 5 days and then to Santoña (Summer Camp).

I can't believe it myself! I managed to get through the first year of telecommunications engineering with all subjects passed!

I have to say, I've been really lucky and I've had to resit two exams (Calculus II and Linear Algebra), but everything turned out pretty good in the end.

Today I purchased 4 awesome games that were on sale on Steam: Team Fortress 2 for 5,09 EUR and commandos pack for 3,50€.

See? this is what the gaming industry should do, use a very simple platform like steam, where you simply buy the license and download the game anytime you want. Very simple and (since a few days) cross platform!

Dear Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and Game-making companies: want to reduce piracy? make games affordable. I don't mind spending 10€ a month on games, but I'm not going to pay 50€ for I game I might not like. (and my math are not all that good, but getting 10€ a month is more than... nothing if I download the games).

Same goes for the movie and music industry.

Strike in Madrid's underground

Ever since the economic crisis started we've had some strikes every now and then, but none as serious as the one we're having today.

All employees of Madrid's metro are on complete strike today and tomorrow. They were supposed to keep minimum services (50% of trains) but some of them are going inside and blocking the way, so its completely closed. This of course means that the city is almost collapsed: huge queues in bus stops, taxis everywhere traffic jams in every single road... and unfortunately seems like tomorrow won't be any different.

In my opinion, I think they should fire the ones that are causing all the trouble. I'm pretty sure that with 20% unemployment, a lot of people are very willing to take their jobs.

I swear I'm losing faith in my own country...

Wohoo pool time!

Last Tuesday we had scheduled the handing of the invisible friends gift (for those that don't know what the is, it consists of you getting a random person playing the game and you have to give them a gift) and a friend of ours decided to lend us her house so we could also have some awesome times (that, we had) in her pool!

And it was so much fun! first we went to this buffet and ate so much! (hmm pasta...) once we were done, we drove to her (awesome) house for some fun times!

Yay! It's all over! finally!

Of all 4 exams, I think I got 2 with a grade above 7, Unfortunately the other 2 (calculus and systems and circuits) didn't turn out so good.

Anyways, now I get to have some free time for a few days. Re-sitting 3 subjects isn't going to be nice, Especially calculus 2 and systems...Thevenin, convolutions of x(t) into the system H(t), Electricity... Boring

I'm not sure what I'll be doing this summer... Earning some money as Summer camp again (fun times), Time with my family... we'll see.

This project in particular was about making a dice. We had to set the CPLD such that a random LED from 1 to 6 would turn on when the switch was closed. Fun times

Jornadas Deportivas 2010

Same as last year, on the third Saturday of April we have the Sports games in my residence!

This has been going on for a quite a few years now (for me its the third one) and it mainly consists on us calling all students dorms around Spain and having them playing Soccer, Basketball, Running and some other games against all of us.

I guess you can imagine all the organizing this requires.

This year around 500 people showed up overall for the games. 300 from other cities in Spain and around 200 from Madrid alone. all 300 that came from outside Madrid had to sleep in our residence so we brought 300 mattresses and bed for all of them. We also had to take care of the food and all other necessities.

It all started on Friday, when everyone from outside Madrid came and we had to show them around, give them info and so on... the thing is that this year we were only 3 people to greet them all, the rest were partying outside. Oh well... then we gave all the T-shirts and everything and while everyone went partying (again) I went to bed (soooo tired).

On Saturday we all woke up at 08:00 to have some breakfast and get started with the whole thing, which began with the rising of the Spanish flag and ended around 23:00 with a super-awesome concert by some of the musicians we have living with us.

Overall it was an awesome day, I had lots of fun and I hope to see you in 2011!

Cherry Blossoms in Madrid

Two days ago, I had a free period after Calculus II, and since I had nothing to do (I really didn't felt like studying) I decided to go for a walk in this little park next to my university, where I found this beautiful cherry tree completely pink.

I'm not the kind of guy that likes to take a picture of himself, but given that these trees blossom for 1 week and then turn green and no one else was around, I had to take the picture by myself.

My awesome class

Today I realized we are almost halfway through the second semester and while thinking about Friday’s costume party (which I’ll be posting as soon as I get the full sized pictures) I noticed I have an awesome class!

Really! I’m not sure what is it that makes it different, but I guess is the fact that all of us are nerdy/geeky in our own way, and we are neither ashamed of it (here in Spain that seems to be some sort of crime) nor critics on other’s hobbies, making us a very lively and united class… why? Because there are no prejudices! Sure I am more of a PC nerd than anything else, but I get along great with an awesome D&D friend of mine, and with this friend who is awesome at painting, and with this girl who loves Zelda games, or this other friend who sings like an angel… (I think you get the picture.) I’m not good at any of these things, and yet I really enjoy being with them!

I’m not saying that any other classes I’ve been in are worse; I’m just saying they are different... because of prejudices. The smart group doesn’t hang out with the “super-duper-pinky-awesome” girls who don’t hang out with the nerds who don’t hang out with… (and on, and on) why? Because there are too many prejudices. This year is all different, we are all together in this, we are all different but that doesn’t matter, we have fun together, and we gave each other a chance, something that doesn’t happen all the time.

I don’t know, I’m just really happy with my class ^_^

Robotics full contact: Lego Mindstorms 2 - Robosumo

Wohoo! yesterday we had the second session on Lego Mindstorms, this time about RoboSumo! (I guess you can imagine what the whole thing was about).It was so much fun! we had to compete first a group of four and then a group of five, and the two winner robots in each round get to go to the final. we aced it in the first round (first video) but didn't do so well in the final round. nah, nevermind that.
When we designed our robot, the first thing we thought of is that it had to be small, with a wide base and have a lot of friction. then Alex took care of the programming (again) and... voilà!

Robotics first contact: Lego Mindstorms 1 - Can-pusher

Finally! we had our first robotics lesson! (sort of)

A few weeks ago, our System Programming lab professor told us he is imparting this extracurricular course on robotics based on Lego Mindstorms, consisting on 3 four hour long lessons in which we had to develop and program some robots to do some automatic tasks, such as making the robot take 12 cans out of a half a meter radius circle, sumo fighting and make the robot follow a line.

And yesterday we started with task 1: can-pushing

It was so much fun! the robots were programmed in NXC (Not eXactly C) using Bricxcc IDE, As the name indicates, it is fairly similar to C and somewhat similar to Java, but thanks to Alex, we had no problem with the programming.

As of the Lego building, we had the instructions and we added some parts to make it more efficient for picking up the cans while maintaining stability and mobility.

The main idea behind our robot was to use a color finder to check if it found the black line (border of the circle) and if so, turn around, then spin for a few seconds using ultrasound in case it found another can nearby, but that did not work so well, so we finally decided to exclude that (would have worked had we given more time). In the end it worked out pretty good I think.

Conclusion: So much fun in an evening I should have spent studying for a test that I had next day, but whatever right?

My new 4x4x4 Rubik's cube!

Thanks to my cousin I've been able to solve 3x3x3 Rubik's cubes for a year and half or so, time to upgrade!

I did some googling and had a look at the official Rubik's cube website, and although it wasn't really expensive (20$), shipping to Spain was 31$ or so, and took from 1 to 2 MONTHS! finally I had a look at Toys'R'Us' website (I had to copy-paste it, I never get the name right when typing) and found it!

15 minutes walking from university and I was standing on a Toys'R'Us door (lucky me it opened a few months ago, otherwise I'll still be on my way there), 15€ and voila!

I've been playing with it for half an hour or son, and I've managed to get all centers where they're supposed to be (all by myself, promise! no algorithms!), see how long it takes for me to solve it entirely

And yet here I am, writing on my blog while I should be studying...

Thank God I'm done with exams tomorrow. It sure has been a tough Christmas and January... all the time studying! I'm so fed up.
Can't wait. Tomorrow by this time I'll be a free man! (for a few days that is) I'll finally be able to do the things I've been leaving for later, I will finally retake my Python book, catch up with all the gaming and, of course, try my Arduino! also, I'll finally have time to have a good look on how we are going to do the whole cansat thing.

Just 25 more hours.

Veraneaba una derivada enésima en un pequeño chalet situado en la recta del infinito del plano de Gauss,
cuando conoció a un arco tangente simpatiquísimo y de espléndida representación gráfica,
que además pertenecía a una de las mejores familias trigonométricas.
Enseguida notaron que tenían propiedades comunes.
Un día, en casa de una parábola que había ido a pasar allí una
temporada con sus ramas alejadas, se encontraron en un punto aislado de ambiente muy íntimo.
Se dieron cuenta de que convergían hacia límites cuya diferencia era
tan pequeña como se quisiera. Había nacido un romance. Acaramelados
en un entorno de radio épsilon, se dijeron mil teoremas de amor. Cuando el verano pasó, y
las parábolas habían vuelto al origen, la derivada y el arco tangente eran novios.
Entonces empezaron los largos paseos por las asíntotas siempre unidos por un punto común,
los interminables desarrollos en serie bajo los conoides llorones del lago,
las innumerables sesiones de proyección ortogonal.
Hasta fueron al circo, donde vieron a una troupe de funciones
logarítmicas dar saltos infinitos en sus discontinuidades. En fin, lo
que eternamente hacían los novios.
Durante un baile organizado por unas cartesianas, primas del
arco tangente, la pareja pudo tener el mismo radio de curvatura en
varios puntos. Las series melódicas eran de ritmos uniformemente
crecientes y la pareja giraba entrelazada alrededor de un mismo punto

cuartos de divisiones del término independiente que costaron mucho.
Empapeló las habitaciones con las gráficas de las funciones más

todo estuvo preparado, el arco tangente se trasladó al punto impropio

Although I'm very proud of this game (classic Battleship game) I can also say that this has taken so many hours of actual studying from me that from now until January 21st, my social life ends until I'm done with physics!
Also, I will post the *.jar file once I'm evaluation is over (so people don't copy and stuff) so everyone can try this.
PS:I know that it looks like crap, but it took so much time I expects lots of "wow, looks awesome" and so on...

One week ago, we were on our way to Segovia from Cercedilla, a good 35~40 Km moving up and down…

God that was a long trip.

By that I don’t mean it wasn’t awesome, is just that it was tiring, really tiring

We left at 08:20 from our residence, took the underground to Atocha (Madrid’s main train station) to get the train to Cercedilla, from where we will start our journey. the thing is: we missed that train, so we took the one 5 minutes later to Chamartin (north of Madrid) where we met with Dani, waited 50 more minutes and got in the train.

The trip there was uneventful, Potter slept his way there because he did not sleep at all that night! other than that we were there in an hour or so.

once there, we started walking at 11:20 approximately, first across the little village

then the real thing started, a steep way up on an old Roman path full of rocks that will roll their way down if you touched them. awesome.

We hardly made it, and really beat, took a break to have some lunch

Once done, we started our “way down” (actually it was full of ups and downs, but anyways) that took us a hell of a lot of hours

Until we finally made it to Segovia! we met with a friend there and had a few drinks, a walk around the city and off to the bus station to catch a train back home.

It was really gratifying when we finally got there… more pics in the facebook album!

I know many of you have had to format a computer at least once. in my case for instance, it can get boring in the end if you have to fetch the same programs again and again (you know, firefox, messenger…)

So it was then when I read about Ninite.

This website justa asks you what free software you would like to install and it does it for you by getting a simple installer on your PC and doing all the job (downloading and installing) for you, without installing bars and other annoying stuff!

You know, we have a problem. In my residence we’ve had some issues with the internet for as long as it’s existed, mainly because we get stuff 7 years after they come out.

Take wired internet for instance, it came out ages ago and it wasn’t until 5 years ago that we started having it. and now the issue is wireless.

You see, we only have 10 Mb of internet speed at the moment, which is exactly the same I have in my house, the only difference is that in my house there are 4 people and here we are 103! so you can imagine how long it takes to check my Gmail for instance (I get enough time to go to the toilet and come back) which is only worsened by the amount of people downloading stuff from P2P and such. This is going to end now.

I have gathered the techiest heads here and managed to get some ideas going, starting with the creation of a Linux server to filter all Megaupload, rapidshare… connections, block P2P ports and avoid any sort of Spotify-alike program (Any other thing that you can come up with will be great)

the real issue is: how?

It’s probably going to be a Ubuntu Server Edition PC, but I have never set up a server myself and neither have any of the people that are going to help me. I know our friend Google is always there but I just read Ubuntu server had no graphical interface, so I have no idea how I’m going to manage (I’m not the best with Linux console).

Any revolutionary ideas on how to help or any program to get stuff working?

United Nations Volunteering

You know, for quite while now, I’ve been thinking about going somewhere to do some volunteering, mainly because I thought it would be a very nice experience that will (1) make me feel useful and (2) let me see how the real world is like… also because I love travelling.

So yesterday night I decided to give it a shot and have a look at the official UN Volunteering Website. after a few minutes browsing to find what I was looking for, I finally found it and, to my disappointment, I can’t apply for it.

Professional qualifications

A university degree or higher technical diploma;

Several years of relevant working experience;

At least age 25 when taking up an assignment (there is no upper age limit);

Good working knowledge in at least one of the three UNV working languages: English, French and Spanish.

So yeah, no can do this time. Seems like I’ll have to wait for a few more years.

So, does anyone know anything I can do of that sort (volunteering or working away from Europe)? Remember I speak Spanish and English and I’m still not done with my degree (although anything related to it would be extremely great).

wow, I’ve really had two tough weeks!

I know it sounds like a lousy excuse for not writing anything on the blog since the Google Wave update but it’s true, I’ve been really busy!

First, I started with Judo again and fortunately, I still fit in my suit (I really thought I had grown something in 4 and a half years of Judo inactivity). anyways, the Judo thing keeps me busy Tuesdays and Thursday every week.

Second, everything is starting to get hard at uni. Programming in Java is no issue (seems like I have some natural talent for programming I didn’t know about), and algebra I can manage single-handed. as of the other is starting to get challenging, specially physics, where my professor is…. don’t know…really funny but really hard to understand at times. Calculus is still manageable.

At any rate, I have some news:

I’m back on Twitter! I promise I’ll keep it updated! My profile is here and there is also a new Twitter gadget in this blog
I’ve had the most awesome Birthday present ever (check below), together with a gift card (that I’m not attaching, sorry)
I got my Google Wave account! YES! thanks to Zenitram (classmate) for inviting me. I was really not expecting to get it so soon! The system is really incredible, still with some bugs and so on, but I think its really going to be the future, beware hotmail and yahoo!

You know what? I love Google. Really. They are one of the most awesome company in the world. Now they have showed us they are one of the key companies that will make the future of the internet something incredible, by developing Google Wave.

Google Wave is a new Web-based platform intended to be “What email would look like if it were reinvented today” and they pretty much did it again! watch the video for more detailed info (its 1 hour and 20 minutes, but is REALLY worth watching)

Augmented reality on mobile devices

Seems like Nvidia (all hail) has released a new and very powerful mobile device that allows good graphics and a 800x600 screen resolution. not only that but has an incorporated cam! so it was only a matter of time before geeks took matters into heir own hands, and this is what came out: a augmented reality Zombie-killing game. AWESOME!

Incredible isn’t it? well, if you look in the related video section you will find the next video with a software built for a more affordable device, an Android phone:

Back to Madrid and Uni!

OK guys I’m back to Madrid! (weeee)

After one week here (yeah, sorry I didn’t post anything) I finally started with my classes in my Bachelor's Degree in Communication System Engineering (Bolonia adaptation of Telecommunications engineering: communication systems) yesterday, well actually today. My opinion? this doesn’t seem all THAT hard… but it’s the first day, its supposed to be easy

yes, I had calculus I (easy stuff, just reminders of IB and absolute values (uuuuhhhh, scaaaary), but nothing really impressive. Programming was really funny because the teacher’s PC wouldn’t work, so we started with this ALICE thing, which was more like a 3D Flash than a programming language. anyways the teacher said we will be starting Java soon (yesh!)

At any rate, I’m FAR more motivated that I’ve ever been with business management and I swear I’ll pass all my subjects… ALL! (Isidoro, the bet is still on), I’m gonna prove that I can freakin’ do it, although most people seem not to believe it.

I’m sorry guys, but this post I have to do it in Spanish for some of my friends, but I’ll try to translate asap

Bueno, de vuelta al castellano (quieras o no, echaba de menos el escribir en mi idioma…). este post tiene todos los programas y curiosidades de los ordenadores que he ido encontrando a lo largo de los años, haced con ello lo que os plazca. NOTA: creo que todo lo que hay aqui esta en español, si el link a algun programa esta en ingles, buscad la opcion para cambiar de idima o durante la instalacion os dejará.

Internet:

Os recomiendo que dejéis el internet Explorer… tiene muchas brechas de seguridad y a la larga es por donde se suele meter la mayoría de la basura que viene de internet, por ello os recomiendo el Mozilla Firefox.

El Firefox tiene otra gran cosa (aparte de velocidad y seguridad) que son los Add-ons (complementos creo que se llama en Castellano) los cuales permiten un nivel de personalización del programa bastante amplio. Ya escribí un post hace tiempo sobre mis add-ons de firefox, pero si queréis os explico los más destacados en español:

Adblock Plus : este maravilloso Add-on te permite eliminar los anuncios que molestan en las páginas que visitáis a diario, ya sean imágenes o animaciones. Para bloquear algo (por ejemplo la foto de publicidad del Tuenti cuando carga) solo hay que hacer click derecho en la imagen y a “Adblock plus: bloquear imagen” ¡ya está! ¡Olvidaos de esa foto que siempre consume ancho de banda!. También os encontrareis a veces con otra opción que pone “bloquear macro” (por ejemplo en youtube) esta lo que hace es eliminar el cuadro donde estaba la foto junto con la foto, asi que en youtube por ejemplo, se quita la publicidad y se sube la información del video y todo lo demás para arriba, evitando molestias de tener que ir para abajo en la pagina y eso.
BugMeNot: este no es necesario instalarlo, porque se puede hacer desde google. Lo que este add-on hace es evitar tener que registrarte en páginas y foros solo para ver una cosa puntual. Por ejemplo, si quieres ver una cosa en Vagos.es pero te pide registrarte, le darías a botón derecho donde pondrías tu nombre de usuario y a “log me in with bugmenot” y el programa solo te logea con una contraseña y un usuario que alguein ha decidido compartir, evitando molestias a los demás. También se puede hacer desde google escribiendo “bugmenot vagos.es” (o lo que sea) y el primer resultado suele ser la página de bugmenot con el listado de nombres y contraseñas.
Skipscreen: este lo que hace es automáticamente baja archivos de megaupload y rapidshare y todos esos sin tener que esperar y elegir servidor y toda la chorrada, además si tienes que esperar te pone el tiempo que falta en el titulo de la pestaña.
Google Toolbar: pues eso, la barra de google, que elimina los pop-up y todo eso
Compact menú 2: si estáis en un portátil y queréis salvar espacio en pantalla, podéis evitar una barra entera con este add-on que comprime todo lo de “Archivo, editar, herramientas….” En un botón desplegable que luego te muestra esas opciones
VideoDownload helper: para bajar videos de youtube o cualquier sucedáneo, simplemente darle a botón derecho en algún lado en la pantalla (ojo, que no sea el video!), a “Videodownloadhelper” y en la pestaña de “Media” esta el video para bajarse!
Xmarks: este lo que hace es permitirte sincronizar los marcadores (favoritos) en internet, así nunca los perderéis! Hay que instalarlo y luego crear una cuenta para sincronizarlo!
Download Statusbar: una barrita abajo en la que saldrán las descargas, muy practica para evitar la molesta ventanita de descargas de firefox

También os recomiendo que el buscador de arriba a la derecha lo cambiéis a youtube, para hacerlo, escribir “Firefox Search engines” en google y el primer link os lleva a una página con un montón, luego veréis que hay 10 favoritas, pues una de ellas es youtube

Programas del ordenador

Songbird: este programa es in iTunes pero mejor, porque permite el uso de Add-ons (es de los mismos creadores que el firefox) para mejorar su uso, por ejemplo el add-on Lyric master te bja las letras de las canciones automáticamente, y hay tropecientos add-ons para que descubráis! (y si, sirve para el iPod)
Voipbuster: para mensajes y llamadas desde el ordenador. Cada mensaje cuesta 5 céntimos (ha subido desde la última vez que lo mire) y tiene la ventaja de que lo escribes con un teclado normal. Luego las llamadas a fijos en España es gratis (si no me falla la memoria) y costaba nosecuantos céntimos el minutos móviles, pero aseguraos primero.
Ccleaner: para limpiar mierda del ordenador, solo abrirlo y darle a “ejecutar el limpiados” y ya veréis. También permite la opción de desactivar programas del arranque de Windows, lo cual os recomiendo hacer.
Avast: mi antivirus por excelencia, gratis de bajar y solo hay que registrarse y escribir una licencia que caduca cada año (pero da igual, porque se vuelve a pedir en la pagina y 3 segundos después la tienes renovada) y por ahora no me ha dado nunca un problema. NOTA: cuando se instala te da la opción de pasar un escaneo antes de que se ejecute Windows, si aceptáis lo cual os recomiendo, dejad el ordenador tranquilo hasta que acabe”)
Fences: permite crear cuadrados en el escritorio para organizar los iconos de forma mas fácil y limpia, muy muy recomendado.
VLC: ¿Cuántas veces habéis tenido problemas de codecs? Pues se acabo, porque este programa lo lee todo! Y es sin duda el mejor reproductor de video jemas (y permite hacer capturas de pantalla!)
Jdownloader: para bajar links de internet, solo hay que pegar la lista de links y el se encarga de bajarlos y de escribir el captcha y todo.

Paginas Web:

Dropbox: esta página te ofrece 2 Gb de disco duro en internet, al cual puedes subir archivos desde la pagina o bajándote su programa y en una carpeta que te crea en Windows, una autentica maravilla! (si alguien está interesado que me lo diga y yo le invito, porque así nos dan 300Mb mas gratis a los dos!)
Taringa y Vagos: pues eso… todo lo que necesitáis de pelis y eso suele estar ahí

Berlin, days 5 to 10

On day 5 we went to the Berlin zoo and Aquarium. It was not really all that amazing overall, the zoo was big but the aquarium tiny (compared to Valencia’s…) during the evening we went to the Hard Rock Cafe next to the Zoo.

on day 6 we went to the Berlin wall… now THAT was interesting! we even had a chance to participate in that historical monument!

Day 7: Leisure at youth hostel… not much to do

Day 8: in the morning we went to church (at least some of us), then to checkpoint Charlie where I finally had the chance to buy my “you are leaving American sector” plate and in the evening we had the blueman group show which was SUPERB! I mean… really, it was pure awesomeness taken to the next level, I had so much fun watching those guys doing stupid stuff and in the end we had the toilet paper fight…. oh god AWESOME! (I know this might sound weird, so check the website for more info)

Day 9: we had waterskiing! and seems that I am extremely good at it since I was, together with two more people, the only one that didn’t fall ONCE! it was all in a lake 5km from the nearest train station 4 stops away from Wandlitzsee. we had to go there from the station to the place by van and RUNNING on the way back… on our barefoot

Day 10: Visit to the German Reichstag! also incredible, it was lots of fun being in there and the design was also great!

Berlin, days 2, 3 and 4

On the second day in Berlin we had the introduction day, getting to know the youth hostel and walking around the place. we also had the international groups put together (Group C!) and had some introduction games so we get to know each other.

That's pretty much for the day because it started raining at night after the other Spanish group leader arrived and had a swim at the lake, which meant that no BBQ as scheduled (instead of great German meat we had crappy sandwiches which NONE of us liked…)

Day 3 and finally some interesting activities! at morning we took the train to Karow and then the underground to Gesumbrunnen. there we had the Bunker tour, which was a one hour long tour in a WWII bunker. it was really nice even though the guide was quite a weirdo…

During the evening we had the “Berlin by boat” activity in which we had a tour in the river Spree on a German marines boat. Really, really nice! mainly because we had a chance to “taste” Berlin and have a first look at the main important buildings that were around the river. The pic on the left is me after the boat ride on out way back to the train station

Day 4 was boring… its not just my opinion but also most of the kid’s opinions. this is because we had the town rally in which we were slit in teams of 4 or 5 and then given a sheet with lots of questions to fill. it was nice in a way because we had a chance to go in the underground by ourselves (Potsdamer Platz and the Sony Center are AWESOME) but other than that it was WAY too long and tiring (from 11 until 16).

Berlin, day 1

As in the post below, I’m still in a plane on my way to Berlin, and we’ve already had some problems, like… I don’t know… almost missing the plane!

Today morning I woke up at 09:00 or so, prepared everything and left for the airport at 12:00 or so. got to the airport, met everyone, had lunch and started running because we didn’t realize we were late.. really late.

At any rate (yeah, I’m no longer at the plane) we got there in time and we managed to fly to Berlin with no problems concerning luggage but one small bag that we had sent to us a few days later.

So yeah, we’re in Berlin! back to central Europe! on my way to the youth hostel (40 minutes or so) I got really nostalgic, I kept on remembering my days back in Holland and how different everything is back in Spain.

Once at the youth hostel, we had a lousy dinner all of us were complaining about, a small briefing about how the camp was going to look like and us leaders had some time for introducing ourselves. around midnight I met my roommate Pino, an Italian guy with a hilarious sense of humor.

Santoña ICC

I am currently in a plane on my way to Berlin as I write this, so I am not really sure when I’ll be able to post it. anyways.

Santoña ICC! yes! it was awesome, had a great time, everyone was really nice there, everything worked out the way it was supposed to…great. now lets go on the detailed explanation

Day 1: Madrid, 09:00 AM. We supposed to be all one hour early than the departure time to Santoña by bus, so there I was, at 9, ready to start my first summer camp as a group leader. to my surprise (well, not really), we left at 11:00 or so because this one girl was late… really late. the main problem arrived when I was told that I wasn’t going to the camp in the bus like everybody else, but instead, I had to go to the airport with a Spanish guy and a girl to pick up the Bulgarian, German, Czech and Polish with four huge-ass bags full of sandwiches and water bottles (roughly 100). so there I was, on a cab on my was to Barajas airport with 4 humongous plastic bags. the Spanish guy (Pablo) stayed in Terminal 1 waiting for the German and Bulgarian, while the girl (Alejandra) and me left for terminal 4 in a bus to pick up the Polish and the Czech. they all arrived at the correct time so we all left in a Bus to Santoña. we got there late… like really late, had dinner, attended the welcoming meeting and off to bed.

Day 2: group leaders were assigned to each different group and as for me, I stayed in the camp working as a Staff member and joining random activities every now and then in case there were people missing and so on. we showed the kids around and they had a few introductory games. that's pretty much it.

Days 3, 4, 5 and 6: kids had some activities and we basically did the work behind the scenes. I must admit it was fun.

Day 7: on the 7th day we all had a trip to “El Soplao” caves in Cantabria. the experience was great and the cave was awesome, although we had some problems with the guide. You see, her English was crap, and some guy in the group I was going with mocked her once. then she got mad and started to shout at us group leaders and staff members, so from the moment she explained in Spanish while I translated for the whole group. I think I did pretty well, but the thing is that I don’t know all the geological terms for everything (at least not right away, I have to look them up in the dictionary) so whenever I made a mistake or couldn't come up with the right word, the woman will start correcting me, but whatever.

Days 8, 9, 10 and 11: pretty much the same as 3, 4, 5 and 6 but this time I joined twice for diving and kayaking, once to Karts and… some other stuff.

Day 12: I love this activity, I really do. kayaking down river Deva. This activity consist on getting a Kayak, a partner and a rowing pad, get to the river and start rowing for 8 Km, which is awesome. also, the good thing is that when you are a group lead, you become a pirate, which means you can take on ships! so I started jumping from boat to boat in an attempt to make all canoes flip. and I made it! it was a lot off fun and I’ll try to do this activity as many times as possible.

Days 13: Today we had the medieval fair, which is pretty much getting everyone dressed as a middle age character and have some games around, it was also lots of fun.

Day 14: packing up and saying bye and so on, also cleaning day.

Day 15: Everybody home!

I’m really gonna miss this camp, I had lots of fun.

Hey there everyone!

Yesh, I’m back. In a way at least, because tomorrow I’m leaving to Berlin! (woohoo)

Everything's been a little messy these days, maybe too messy. for instance, I was told 3 days before leaving to Figueras summer camp that I was going to another different camp. and I was told 6 days ago that I was going to Berlin summer camp!

apart from the whole organizational issue, my summer’s been great! I will explain how the Santoña ICC went in the next post (yes, it deserves it’s own post).

Geo-mining museum.

I really should have posted this a long time ago (we went there roughly 3 weeks ago or so…) but anyways:

the title is pretty self-explanatory, we went to the geo-mining museum here in Madrid, and it was awesome. i loved it because it was more of a guided visit thanks to our particular geologist (Isidoro) and our particular mining engineer (Pocoyó).

Theater time!

I haven’t been to the theater for a loooooong time (and by long, I mean from September 2008) but yesterday, my uncle invited my cousin and I to go watch a Cabaret called “Pasión sin puñales”. At first, I thought a cabaret was what women did in movies from the west and stuff but no, a cabaret means that there are a number of acts not related to each other.

and it was fun! there were 10 acts and most of them were really nice, except one of them, where the guy started talking for like 40 minutes and got boring in the end, but other than that, it was really nice.

Dinner time!

Yesterday night we all went to a “foster Hollywood” here in Madrid and we had lots of fun.

the thing about these restaurants is that once you get a drink, you can refill as many times as you want (which meant that each of us drank like 2~3 liters of coke or Fanta) and the best meat ever (well not really, but its pretty good).

Most of us had a hamburger, except for Isidoro, that had a steak. lots of fun times.

after that we had an Italian ice cream and then a tourist visit through Madrid’s center (the royal palace, Opera, Cibeles, etc…) thanks to Rosado. then a bus home and it by 2:40 we were there already.

and no, they’re not gay… lool

PS: I know, the quality sucks, I did not have my phone camera properly configured… I really have to buy a good camera….

OK guys, this is kinda important, I’m really asking you to be extremely sincere with this.

If you are reading this is because you have known me for some time now, so please be serious.

I am really considering leaving Business Management to start Telecommunications Engineering.

Most people, when they get to know me for longer than an hour, get to the point that I belong to sciences and Computer related things. and I’ve been considering changing for a few months now (not because of what people think, don’t get that wrong).

The problem is that I’ll have to start all over again… year 1. Of course all subjects that are “free choice” (libre eleccion) will be done and also 5 to 6 subjects from the main subject plan. I’ve heard from many people that engineers can pretty much do the same a Business manager does and I have personally seen engineers been accepted to work as business managers. although that is not the issue because is not that I want to be in charge of a business or something, but rather do something I am truly, really interested on. Science and technology.

Do you guys think the change is worth it? My parents say its ok, as long as it is what I really want (I don’t deserve to be my parent’s son, they’re far too good). But I’d like some advice from you, my friends.
